About the Barcelona Minecraft World
Barcelona has one of the most geometrically distinctive Minecraft conversions because of the Eixample district — Ildefons Cerdà's 1859 grid plan uses chamfered-corner octagonal blocks that create a visually striking pattern when rendered from above. Unlike the rectangular grids of American cities, Barcelona's blocks have 45° corners at every intersection, producing expanded plazas at every junction and a uniquely textured urban fabric.
What's Included in the Barcelona World
Sagrada Família
Gaudí's basilica is one of the tallest structures in Barcelona and a nightmare to render in cubes — the organic spires don't translate cleanly — but the footprint and relative height are correct, and it stands out clearly in the Eixample grid.
Las Ramblas
The pedestrian boulevard runs 1.2 km from Plaça de Catalunya down to the Port Vell waterfront. In Minecraft it appears as a wide tree-lined strip cutting southwest through the Gothic Quarter.
Park Güell
Sits on Carmel Hill in the north of the city at about 180 m elevation — one of the highest points in Barcelona. The surrounding terrain rises noticeably from the flat Eixample below.
Gothic Quarter
The Barri Gòtic's medieval street plan is the irregular cluster at the southeast end of Las Ramblas — narrow alleys, small plaças, and dense building footprints that contrast sharply with the Eixample grid next to it.
Plus all streets, buildings, parks, and terrain elevation from OpenStreetMap data — faithfully converted to Minecraft blocks. Available for both Java and Bedrock Edition.
What Makes Barcelona Special in Minecraft
- The Eixample grid's chamfered corners are the defining feature. Every intersection has a small plaza where four corners are cut off — this renders as an expanded crossroads with distinct geometry.
- The grid is rotated about 45° off compass north — aligned instead to the coast and the Collserola mountain range. Screenshots will look tilted relative to standard north-up orientation.
- Barcelona's elevation rises from sea level at the Mediterranean to about 200 m at the base of Tibidabo (the highest point in the Collserola range). Including Montjuïc (the hill southwest of the city) gives you a natural elevated viewpoint.
- The port and Barceloneta peninsula extend into the Mediterranean with a long straight beach — a good eastern boundary for a bbox.
Recommended Selection for Barcelona
For most Barcelona builds, a 5 km² selection from about Plaça Espanya east to Parc de la Ciutadella, and from the waterfront north to about the Diagonal, captures the full Eixample grid, the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, and the Barceloneta beach. To include Park Güell and Sagrada Família within the same world, extend north by another 2 km². Montjuïc is best included as a separate focused selection because its terrain and park paths reward dedicated exploration.
